Hello! I’m Stephanie Shirback, and I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m a proud Englewood native who loves our beach town and feels fortunate to be raising my two daughters here with my husband. In 2018, I earned my Master’s in Elementary Education and began my teaching career in first and second grade. After three years in the classroom, I stepped into a broader leadership role—serving as my school’s Intervention Support Specialist, MTSS Coordinator, Gifted and Talented Chairperson, and Reading Specialist—all while teaching fifth-grade science. It was a busy and beautiful time of growth.
During my six years at a small charter school, I had the privilege of truly knowing our students and families. That close-knit environment allowed me to make a deep impact through early screening, powerful instructional tools, and incredible mentorship. I completed a yearlong practicum to become a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner, attended national conferences, and logged countless hours of professional development to sharpen my skills in the science of reading. I worked side-by-side with teachers, administrators, specialists, and families to make sure students received everything they needed to succeed.
What I began to realize through these experiences is this: parents often don’t know what they don’t know. And because of that, they don’t always know how to advocate for their child’s learning needs. Over the years, I’ve received countless calls—from friends, family, and parents of former students—asking for help navigating confusing and inconsistent academic progress. That led me to tutoring students across a wide age range, from kindergartners learning letter sounds to high school seniors struggling with comprehension or test strategies.
Watching a child learn to read—or learn from reading—is nothing short of magic. The spark in their eyes, their growing confidence, the way they suddenly want to read everything in sight—it’s heart warming soul-food. It’s become my mission to help every child unlock the power of reading so they can access every opportunity life has to offer.
But it doesn’t end there. In fact, that’s just the beginning.
I believe deeply in personalized education—where instruction meets each student exactly where they are, whether they’re ahead, behind, or somewhere in between. A child who reads at a sixth-grade level but struggles with fourth-grade math should be taught accordingly. Learning should be interdisciplinary, connected to real-life experiences and a child’s unique interests. Just as importantly, it should happen in an environment that is safe, nurturing, and built on trust—a space where children feel confident enough to take risks, make mistakes, and grow. While much of the current educational system serves many students well, it also leaves too many behind.
That’s why I founded A Brighter Chapter Tutoring—to offer individualized, high-quality instruction tailored to each student’s needs, to empower parents with educational choices, and to ensure no child falls through the cracks.
Thank you for being here. I can’t wait to work with you to create A Brighter Chapter.
Warmly,
Stephanie Shirback
